Impostor syndrome is a psychological pattern where people feel like they don’t deserve their accomplishments. Internally they feel like they are not good enough or they feel like a fraud. People that go through this doubt their talent and have a persistent internalized fear.
Entrepreneurs are one of the largest groups to wrestle with feelings of worth, achievement and self-esteem. No matter how successful entrepreneurs are on the outside or how much external evidence there is of their skills or competence, they often feel as though they don’t fit in with their peers. Entrepreneurs who struggle with impostor syndrome are convinced that they don’t deserve the success they have achieved.
Have you been dealing with Impostor Syndrome? This might help. if it helps you, share with someone:
1)Invest in knowledge: Have you noticed when you spend extra money or time gaining a new skill, reading new books or resources, you feel more confident? That’s the first step if you invest in yourself you will cherish it forever. The extent to which you invest in yourself, mind and body, not only shapes the way you interact with the outside world, it often reflects the opinion you have of yourself.
2) Talk about it – No one should suffer in silence. Sharing your thoughts and experiences with someone will help you deal with your impostor syndrome. We recommend sharing them with a mentor. Your mentor will help you talk about your struggles while giving you a more objective point of view. By talking about how you feel with your mentor, you can learn about the struggles they’ve gone through and the mistakes they’ve made in their careers, and you may find that they have some helpful stories or advice on how to deal with what you’re feeling.
3) Keep score of your achievements – Sometimes we forget how amazing we are. If you know you have imposter syndrome tendencies, start to gather success reminders. These can be emails from colleagues or friends and family. They can be letters you have received. They can be pictures of times you felt proud. It can even be calling a friend who is a great cheerleader. You can keep a journal too, document your wins and read it when you feel low
4) Try new things – Expose yourself to new cultures, books, countries, content and so on. Learn about people and legends. The more you do this you will see that life is not as hard as you think it is. Life is not perfect. It is a journey you should enjoy and embrace. Don’t be afraid of new experiences. Since you only live once, don’t live your life with regrets. Push your comfort zone and try new things. You’ll find that you’ll start to look forward to what comes next.
5) Be your own fan – Stop comparing yourself with others. Be self-aware cause right now you are the only version of you! You are so special never forget that. You need to highlight all the good things about yourself and give yourself a standing ovation. Gas yourself up!
As entrepreneurs, we face daily challenges to our self-confidence. So while climbing to the top, be sure to recognize your value and never lose sight of your inner worth. You can do anything you set your heart to never forget!
